MUSIC IN TIMES OF CERVANTES AND SHAKESPEARE - FOURTH CENTENARY

MUSIC IN TIMES OF CERVANTES AND SHAKESPEARE - FOURTH CENTENARY

2016 is an important year in the literature world. 400 years ago that the two most important internationally recognized writers died. This program in the fourth centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, and William Shakespeare, pays tribute to these writers, certainly two of the most important figures in Spanish and English literature of all time. The aim of this concert is to present the music of this era.

Moreover, it is not possible to understand their literary work without delving into the primordial role played by music in it, for both writers. They learned to integrate in a masterly way the music of their time in their own writings. A clear example is found in The Quijote and its sequel, where the writer incorporates recurrently songs and romances and dances of various kinds, as villanos, gallardas and canaries, among others.

In the concert is performed music of the Spanish and English Renaissance of composers as important as Juan del Encina, Antonio de Cabezon, John Dowland, Alonso de Mudarra, Luis de Narvaez and several anonimus pieces, among others. Through these music we illustrate the historical context in which lived theses big figures.

The group can offer also the possibility to perform an spectacle making a journey trought the life of both writers, alternating these comments with the music of this period. For this we have the help of an musicologist specialising in early music and expert in both writers.
